Relationships between process items...
Effects (the vee shapes that tie two lines together) show a relationship between two items.  This is where data from one item causes something to happen to another item.  What happens is shown with a symbol at the point of the "vee".  You can look at the Effect like a funnel -- data moves from one item, through the funnel, to cause something to happen to the other item.
