Effects show a relationship between two items

(the vee shapes that tie two lines together)

This is where data from one item causes something to happen to another item. What happens is shown with a symbol at the point of the "vee".  You can look at the Effect like a funnel -- data moves from one item, through the funnel, to cause something to happen to the other item.
